The Hiring Process

  1. The Albany County Sheriff’s Office tests for new Detention Deputies at least once each year. NOTE: Street Deputy Position openings are filled through an application and test process open to current sworn in personnel in the Detention Center.

  3. Successful Applicants are ranked on an eligibility list based upon the testing process. The eligibility list is then held by the Albany County Sheriff for a period of one year, or until the eligibility list is exhausted.

  4. All detention deputy vacancies are filled from applicants on the eligibility is following a final personal interview with the sheriff.
