On Wednesday (February 13, 2013) at about 12:58 P.M., Deputies of the Albany County Sheriff's Office and ambulances from the Rock River Volunteer Fire Department and  Laramie Fire Department responded to a residence in Rock River on a report of a 15 month old baby boy that was not breathing.

Upon the arrival of the Deputies rescue breathing was in already in progress, and the child was immediately prepared for transport to Laramie's Ivinson Memorial Hospital.

On scene Deputies became suspicious of some injuries that were visible on the child's head and face area and relayed that information to other Sheriff's office personnel who responded to IMH to meet the inbound ambulance and the investigation continued.

Medical personnel at IMH were able to determine that the child was suffering critical injuries to the brain in addition to recent bruising on the child's head and face area. Due to the critical nature of the injuries the child was flown to Denver Children's Hospital for emergent care.  As of Thursday morning, the child is currently being treated for his injuries in the Intensive Care Unit of Children's hospital.

Interviews that were conducted of people on scene at the time of the call resulted in the arrest of the child's baby sitter who is identified as Ashley Cope (age 19), for Felony Child Abuse. Cope is currently incarcerated in the Albany County Jail and is expected to be arraigned in Circuit court on Friday morning.

To gain access to the residence snow moving equipment from the Wyoming Department of Transportation and the Albany County Road and Bridge department, also immediately responded to clear the road for emergency vehicles.
